The Nerd by Larry Shue

We arrived in Amana Colonies this afternoon. It was very windy, but I think it helped to dry up some of the water.

This evening we walked across the road to The Old Creamery Theatre Company for the presentation of The Nerd. It had a lot of funny lines and the actors and actresses did a very good job. It brought back a lot of memories of the 70's from the clothing to the furnishings. I'm sure I used to own that end table - you know the one - octagonal, heavy, spanish looking. The yellow "happy face" on a lamp and a "throw". And what would that era be without the "lava lamp". The guys wore those "fun" leisure suits and the girls lots of polyester.

I really didn't know what the story line was before seeing it tonight. Goofiness takes center stage! Willum Gilbert has it all - a promising career as an architect, devoted friends, even, maybe, a serious girlfriend. But then Rick Steadman, the ultimate social misfit, comes to visit and puts everything in peril. The Nerd escalates into madcap farce as Willum tries to out-nerd his sanity-destroying houseguest.

The play had a lot of funny lines, but for me personally, I can only take so much of that kind of humor before it's like nails on a chalkboard if you know what I mean. It was a fun evening out. We also noted that if it hadn't been for our Monaco America group the theater would have just had a couple of rows of people. Good thing we were there.

If there's ice cream involved, I'll usually call it a good night out :)

I agree, but there was no ice cream. You would think so though with the name of the theatre.
