Twinkling Eyes

Have you ever noticed the gleam in a mother’s eye and the hitch in her voice whenever she talks about her baby? I can still remember my Mother-in-law anytime she talked about my husband – her golden boy. I was reminded of this on Friday when MM had the same ‘little boy’ gleam in his eye as he planned a special evening. He had a spaghetti dinner ready when I got home – very good. And when we went downstairs to watch TV I found a box of candy. He has a hard time holding in his excitement. It’s a boyish quality that I fell in love with and he still displays it occasionally.

We were watching something on TV the other day and it was asking what the most romantic thing was that the other person had done. I asked him what he remembered as the most romantic thing that I'd ever done? His answer was a cop out "you've done so many I can't decide". I told him that the most romantic thing he'd ever done stood out real clear to me. Big question mark for him.... what did he possibly do that I still remembered lol. He does a lot of things, but the most romantic I have to back a few years ago. He had bought a cassette (yeah, that long ago) with my favorite song on it and had it ready to play when I started my car. I still get tears in my eyes when I think of it because really.. he's the kind of guy that says "I don't beat you doesn't that mean anything" lol. Okay, maybe not that bad, but he shows with actions of doing stuff around the house. We do remember that his nickname is Maintenance Man right? Just had to share the twinkling eyes though...just warms my heart.

Kathy Mattea - Where Have You Been? Lyrics
Album:

Claire had all but given up
When she and Edwin fell in love
She touched his face and shook her head
In disbelief she sighed and said
In many dreams I've held you near
Now at last you're really here

Chorus
Where have you been?
I've looked for you for ever and a day
Where have you been?
I'm just not myself when you're away

He asked her for her hand for life
Then she became a salesman's wife
He was home each night by 8
But one stormy evening he was late
Her frightened tears fell to the floor
Until his key turned in the door

Chorus

They'd never spent a night apart
For 60 yrs she heard him snore
Now they're in a hospital
In seperate beds on different floors

Claire soon lost her memory, forgot the names of family
She never spoke a word again
Then one day they wheeled him in
He held her hand and stroked her hair
In a fragile voice she said

Chorus

Where have you been
Ive searched for you forever and a day
Where have you been
Im just not myself when your away
Im just not myself when your away

I love the little grin MM gets when he has a secret. He says he has no secret which scares me even more.

No flooding in our area is a nice thing considering our extreme weather.

Another Construction Project

I feel kind of like I do nothing - when I keep showing the projects MM is doing lol. Anyway, our paint the living room project was delayed by the new closet/pantry and now cleaning up the bulletin board area of the kitchen. It was really hard to find a picture of this bulletin board because it always looked so bad that I was careful not to get it in any pictures. The before phone wall.

Maintenance Man built a custom cupboard to house the phone, calendar and other related items. After - of course we are still waiting for warmer weather to do the staining.

Is he handy or what? I just love the work he does. He has such an eye for detail and thinks of things along the way that we'll need. There is a funny story to go along with this though. Yesterday as he was finishing up mounting the phone in the new space there was a knock on the door. He opened the door to a County Sheriff wanting to know who called 911. He says "no one". The officer says "well, someone called 911 TWICE". The light goes on in MM's head and he says "oh, come on in and I'll show you what must have happened". So he must have dialed 911 and ??? maybe hit redial. Don't know about your husbands, but mine doesn't answer the phone during the day either. So when 911 was calling back to see what the problem was he didn't answer!! Anyway, everything worked out fine. Just have to remember that he is great with home projects even if he isn't with the phone lol.

Next project... putting a shelf around the top of the dining room.

Planning

So this past weekend I finally made it to the Franklin Planner store in Novi. I got the monthly pages that I needed to begin in July (come summer I am way to busy). I decided to look around to see what other cool stuff they had since I don’t make it to this store often. They had some really interesting pages to chart your progress with your workouts – got those, and menu planning pages – those looked interesting – in the basket they went. Oh yeah, I bought some other things that I ‘needed’ as well. What’s so funny is that I need the stuff so much that I can’t even put together a couple of minutes to set it up and use it – the bag is still in my purse. And let me tell you it’s getting pretty heavy. Do you think I can count carrying my purse around as a workout? But I have the stuff to set up if I ever get the time lol. What’s really funny is that I know I am no different that most of my friends. I just have the need to own the stuff. Now that I’ve written this out I am definitely going to do this first thing tomorrow. Yeah, I say that a lot too. Sometimes I listen to myself and do it, sometimes not. I’ll get back to you on that.

Last night as I was leaving my Mom's at about 6:15 the sky was the most beautiful pink color. The sky changed quickly as the sun was setting, but I thought 'WOW that I would come out at that exact moment and see such an awesome site is amazing'. I am shown grace in small things like that all the time. Absolutely beautiful.

Spring time weather in the middle of February. Yeah!!!

What Kind of Kid Were You?

I found this neat quiz over at Michelle's and we're both the same kid. Do you sometimes wonder how accurate these are? On one question it asked what I wanted to be when I grew up? There was no answer "mom", and that's all I ever wanted to be. Just sayin.

You Were a Creative Kid

When you were a kid, you always had to be doing something with your hands.

Whether you were painting a picture or just doodling, you had to be creating something.

You were too busy thinking about your future creations to listen in school.

It's likely that every part of school was a challenge for you, except for art class.

Closet Is 'Mostly' Done

Back in January MM started constructing a new closet in some 'dead space' over the stairs and I wanted you to see the progress. The staining and painting have to wait til we can open some windows. This is the view from the dining room - blank wall - wall with door.

This is the view from the livingroom.

And here you have all this lovely space just waiting to be filled. Last night when MM went to use the blender he commented on how nice it was not to crawl around on the floor trying to get it out of it's previous cramped space. I still have lots of stuff to bring up from the basement. I'm gonna love this.

Who would have thought you could get good usable space without knocking out walls? And to have it in such a handy spot for me is great. I am sooo sooo lucky to have such a 'handy man'! Thanks MM for putting a smile on my face.
