Little Sable Lighthouse

We had a quiet weekend over on the west side of the State this weekend. It rained a lot Friday night, but we had a fabulous day Saturday. Did a lot of running around Silver Lake and spent some time at the Silver Lake State Park where we got this great picture of the lighthouse.

We stopped at a couple of farm markets and got some really fresh asparagus. Just a nice relaxing day. We also went to see where all the dune buggies and ORV were staging to go onto the sand.

There were tons of them. See all the little orange flags? That's so they don't get lost in the dunes. Too bad we didn't buy that Jeep MM wants :(.

We're hoping to take some time in maybe August to go up north (the upper peninsula). I'd love to get lots of pictures of lighthouses and water falls. There are a lot of both, some involving hiking and others right on the roadside. Not wishing my life away here, just making plans. When we got home Sunday, we just did a little work around the house and had a quiet dinner.

Another Great Weekend Planned

I'm having a short day today because we're leaving for camping this weekend at the Maple Syrup Festival In Shepherd. We've gone to this many times in the past and have gotten all kinds of weather from blistering hot days to snowy blustry days. Glad to say that this weekend promises to be nice and sunny. Peanut and Co will be joining us on Saturday and I just love to see these things (carnivals, parades and the like) through the eyes of a child. Hopefully I'll get lots of pictures and have lots to tell next week.

The Highlight of my Weekend

You guessed it. I got to see the newest little bundle of joy. We drove over there on Sunday from the campground and I got to hold her for 3 whole hours. Eat your heart out Kathy. She just slept and then when I set her down again she woke up for a photo shoot lol. She is just adorable. Hard to believe that she'll just be 4 weeks old on Wednesday.

She looks like a little doll doesn't she? MM can't understand why I just want to hold her.

We heard from Peanut Land when we got home. My Daughter says that she said "Bippity Boppity Boo" and Peanut said "Papa says that". How cute it that? Funny what we find absolutely adorable isn't it? I also saw Peanut on Thursday and she screamed "Mimi" and ran toward me then at the last minute she swerved away. I think she thought real fast and decided she didn't want to go in the house and that is where I would be going. Too funny. She loves being outside with the sticks and rocks. Who needs to buy toys when we have rocks?

I hate the thought of not being around every weekend this summer. That's going to cut severly into my grandbaby time. I know I'll manage, but I don't know how.

Outdoor Gear

Talking with my friends lately, I’ve heard a lot of people are applying for concealed weapons permits. I wonder if all this doom and gloom that you hear on television is the reason for it. There’s a cool website 5.11 Tactical that has everything you could every want to secure your home and family. They have flashlights, clothing, boots and lots of other tactical gear. A lot of the stuff would just be good for hiking and camping.

Last summer when we were hiking around Mendenhall Glacier – way back in the woods and up the mountain – I would have loved to have a portable liter to be carried back on. Joking aside, that wouldn’t be a bad thing to carry with you. These words coming from the couple that kept forgetting the basics like water and bear repel. We had to laugh because every time we were way out in nature enjoying all the beauty we’d discover that once again we forgot the basics. We didn’t laugh too hard when we had to stop for the bear to cross the path when we were biking around Diamond Lake in OR. Talk about scary. We were in several outdoor situations that more would have been better – oh yeah – we would have had to carry all the stuff. I think it was a combination of thought processes that went through my head, from ‘I can’t wait to get outside’ to ‘I don’t want to carry anything extra’ that left us unprepared so many times. More often than not, when we were prepared it was my Maintenance Man that would carry the backpack with the essentials. Boy, I miss those wonderful days. It’s all taking me back to the perfect vacation – not a bad place to be on this snowy, blustery cold day.
