Moving Day for Sister-In-Law

Sunday we had to say goodbye to my sister-in-law who is moving back to Nevada. She’s been here in Michigan for the last 3 or 4 years, but she misses her kids. They came back to help her pack up and move her back across country. Because her things are going into storage for a while she had to part with a lot of her personal things. It was very sad and I hope I never have to do it. I know the stuff is just material, but to have to make a choice about each thing and decide if it really has a space…that’s hard. And when you think that you paid good money for something adds more pressure to just getting rid of it. Very emotional day and very emotional weekend for my MM, he picked up her kids from the airport on Friday and had been busy with them all weekend. I’m sure we’ll still see her since she will be living in a destination location, but it was very sad to see her go.

Have you ever had to downsize everything and move? I hope I never have to do it since I’ve lived in one place for almost 30 years. It has kind of opened my eyes to what I need to do on a regular basis so I never have to do it all at once. I do go through and clean out closets every few years, but I still have a lot of ‘stuff’.

Renaissance Festival

Over the weekend I joined my daughter, son-in-law and Peanut at the Renaissance Festival on Saturday. I’ve been a few times before, but it was more fun with them when they were all costumed up. I loved the photo of them with the ‘Living Statue’.

We only sat through one show – The Zucchini Brothers and just walked around and watched all the other people. Very interesting. As with any festival the food was limitless. Watching Peanut dancing to the music was the highlight of my day. I remembered too late that my camera has a video feature. Anyway, I did get cute pictures of her smelling the flowers and just being cute.

That era is still not my favorite, but I’m glad I joined them.

Wouldn't you love a 1974 Datsun 260Z

After years of getting her just like he wanted her, my son-in-law is selling his 1974 Datsun 260Z. Although it's been fun and he did a fantastic job with her, she's not really a family car. There's no place for the carseat!

Check out her information here, and if you know someone who may be interested, please pass it along!

Why do they call cars 'she,' anyway?

THURSDAY THIRTEEN 8TH EDITION

I was just checking my last Thursday Thirteen and it was just before our fabulous trip to Alaska this summer. We're back and I can't wait to do it again. Today's Thursday Thirteen is 13 places I'd spend more time at on our next trip to Alaska which includes travelling to and from.

1. I loved hiking in the Starved Rock State Park in IL
2. Whitehorse in the Yukon Territory
3. Dawson City
4. Talkeetna AK
5. Kenai AK
6. Valdez AK
7. Seward AK
8. The hot springs in Laird Hot Springs was amazing.
9. Anchorage, just to spend time with my brother and his family.
10. We were lucky enough to go a little into CA to the Redwood Forest - I'd love to see more.
11. The Black Hills were the most peaceful place I've ever experienced.
12. Even before Palin became the VP nominee I loved the Wassila Palmer area.
13. And we LOVED hiking around the Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau.

We saw so much wildlife and mountainous views daily - it was AWESOME!! If you have time be sure to check it out on my blog from June thru August.

What Season Are You?

Got this quiz from Michelle over on My Crazy Life With A Toddler. I was curious to see what I'd be since I love all the seasons.

You Belong in Spring

Optimistic, lively, and almost always happy with the world...

You can truly appreciate the blooming nature of spring.

Whether you're planting flowers or dyeing Easter eggs, spring is definitely your season!

Chair Covers

While on our great vacation this summer I stopped at several quilt shops starting in the Amana Colonies IA and ending in Alaska. They just had a few more wildlife fabrics. While buying the fabrics I was thinking about a lap quilt or comforter, but when I got home the adirondack chairs needed softening up and the answer ended up being wildlife fabrics on one side and a pretty floral that I got at Joanne Fabrics for the other side. It didn't take long, it was just a matter of squeezing a few minutes here and a few minutes there, okay maybe it was a few hours here and there. Anyway, I was very pleased with the outcome. I did four chairs.

It doesn't show up too well, but the square in the middle top has a log cabin on one the others have a bear, wolf and deer. They have a kind of patchwork design.

As with any project I'm glad they're finished and can't wait to start another.

AAARR

I just found out that this is "Talk Like A Pirate Day". Who knew. Drop in at Harmony In Motion to see my little pirate. She sometimes even says "aarrr". Too cute. Just discovered that the computer is saying September 18th. It is actually September 19th and this is "Talk Like A Pirate Day".

TIME TO TAKE A BREATH

Wow!! I can't believe how quickly things geared up to high speed. At work things were crazy busy (guess that's why they wanted me back by September 1st) and now the weekends are filling up fast. Last weekend MM wanted to get away so we went to our local 'home park'. It rained all weekend! Well, maybe not all weekend, but you know what I mean. Friday we were able to hook up the tow in sunny weather, but when we got to the park it started to pour. I got soaked. After dinner it stopped and we went for a walk and had a small campfire. That was it for the dry weather. My sister and her husband came out for the day on Saturday. Unfortunately, we had to stay inside most of the time. We played a lot of yahtzee and euchre which is my kind of fun. Then after dinner we ventured out for a walk that ended in the rain. We were prepared with rain gear and umbrellas, but it came down pretty hard and we still got wet. We had a great time though.

We headed home early on Sunday which was a good idea. It was pretty dry for the packing up and drive home and the unhooking. The rain actually held off til MM had the rig washed and put away. Then the skies opened up again. What a WET weekend. At least we didn't have any flooding - okay we won't talk about the leak in the roof. Nothing that MM can't handle lol.

This week is just flying by and I'm wondering where the heck it went. Guess if you're living then life happens. Got lots of plans this weekend. Go go go...

Back to Work

So, I've been back to work for three full days and I've made it so far. It was a rough start on the first day. I couldn't remember any of my passwords or where the keys (as in to open drawers) were. Fortunately, the gal that was helping to cover for me had the cheat sheets that I gave to her. Boy, am I glad I gave that stuff to her! It gets a little easier each day.

On the home front, I jumped in full speed. Getting up at 6:00 a.m. to do fun stuff like gardening before going to work. I got a lot done the first few days (it's still dark at 6 a.m. lol) then this morning I just couldn't get up at 6. MM has really been busy. He had to unload all of the bays on the rv and take everything out to wash. I think he finished all of that and is now working on the few repairs that came up over the 3 months. Of course he'll be busy for quite a while with the little things around here. I am so glad that he likes to do stuff around the house.

I forgot to mention how my friends at work have made me feel like I was really missed. The gal that was helping to cover for me was actually tearing up when she came in. Yeah, she almost got me weeping too. Another friend told me how much the blog meant to her. Stuff like that that just makes you feel good. I think I really have a lot of good friends. Glad I work where I do.
